How To Feel Close To Family

What a time to be alive! Am I right? For the first time we are simultaneously experiencing a quarantine. Which makes it difficult to be physically close to our friends and relatives. Most importantly celebrating major holidays like Easter, but don’t worry I’ve got you covered!

Living away from my family for more than six years has given me the experience to try different things and there are ways you can still feel close to your loved ones regardless of social-distancing and being miles apart. Are you ready? Let’s dive in!

Before Eater Sunday contact your family and agree on what activities you will do together.

Here are a few options:

Go to church together. Yes, this can be done even if you are not in the same building. If you have multiple devices available, use one to stream a church service and on another device use the app of your choice to have your family on. That way you can all be celebrating together in your own homes.

Share a menu. Having the same menu your family will be having at their home will make you feel closer. If there is a special recipe handed down from a grandmother or another family member it’s a perfect time to attempt it yourself.

Do an activity together. Again, using the app of your choice come together at a specific time to pray before a meal or have an Easter egg hunt at the same time. If there’s kids perhaps doing the same craft together. Young kids love showing their family what they’re doing. This could be a perfect chance. If there is a specific family tradition then you can schedule a time to do that with the whole family. If you don’t have a tradition then, maybe it would be fun to start one.

Drive by. If you live near other family members then you can try driving by their home and waving a sign from your car wishing them a Happy Easter or you can write your own personal note.

Drop off. You can leave something at the front door. For this one there are endless possibilities. For example, an Easter basket, some crafts, a home cooked meal, a frozen meal, a board game, a hand written letter, some flowers, a box of chocolates or anything that you can think of. Then you can call them and let them know it’s there. Remember to take the proper precautions.

Delivery. Send them something via your preferred carrier. Using the traditional USPS, Amazon, UPS or FedEx. How about sending them a dessert or a hot meal from their favorite restaurant using services like DoorDash or GrubHub. How about groceries? Using Instacart. Your family will know you are thinking about them when they receive something tangible from you. I mean who doesn’t like to receive small surprises at their door step?

Even if we aren’t physically close to our family during Easter that doesn’t mean we are any less grateful for what Jesus did on the cross. This is a time to celebrate everlasting life! I truly hope you have a wonderful holy-day!
