Christmas has turned out to be one of my absolute favorite holiday’s of the year. The first year Josh and I were married we decided to go on 12 ridiculously fun dates to celebrate Christmas. After we became parents we kept up with the tradition, but only to involve our kids on most dates.
These dates you can do with your sweetheart or with your family. Below are the things we will be doing to celebrate.
1. Marathon of Christmas classics. Just think of watching the original Grinch, Miracle on 34th St., It’s a Wonderful Life, these are just a few oldies, but goodies!
2. Christmas lights tour. We visit The Mission Inn it’s a beautiful display of lights that covers the hotel. Or simply load up in the car and drive through the local neighborhoods looking at the Christmas lights.
3. Send out Christmas cards. It’s tangible keepsake for our family and friends from near or far.
4. Read Christmas books. Through out the years we’ve been adding to our collection of Christmas books, but the local library is also a great resource for books. Each day we read a book and share it together by the Christmas tree. Another option would be to wrap the books and have your children open one each night as a special tradition.
5. Bake. Bring out the holiday molds & cookie cutters to add some fun. Cookies aren’t just for Santa right?
6. Decorate for Christmas. In our family we wait until after Thanksgiving to put up any Christmas decorations. We kick off by going out and buying a fresh Christmas tree.
7. Attend a Christmas concert. During Christmas, there’s countless performances, choir concerts, and other holiday entertainment. This doesn’t have to break the bank, simply look at your city’s entertainment page and see what they have going on.
8. Christmas art project. Perhaps making some ornaments or decorating a wreath.
9. Make a gingerbread house. This can be messy, but it’s so fun. My husband and I usually build the house and let the kids decorate it however they want.
10. Give back. Pick an organization or charity and find a way to give back.
Most importantly enjoy this time of year with your loved ones. Have a Merry Christmas!!
