Easter week is upon us and celebrating holidays with children makes them even more interesting. This year we’ve gone on a couple of egg hunts with a few more to go.
The first one we did was at Disneyland. We purchased a map from Disney Showcase in Disneyland Park and searched for eggs as we walked to rides. They also have them available at Disney California Adventure & Downtown Disney.
Emma is still too young to find eggs on her own and Olivia doesn’t understand the concept of looking for eggs. Emma enjoys playing the game “I Spy with My Little Eye” so when Josh or I found an egg we’d give Emma hints in the direction of the egg. She had so much fun playing the game and putting the stickers on her map. Although Olivia didn’t understand the concept she enjoyed looking at her map and pointing at the images and throwing the map once in a while.

It was also our first time taking them to our local city “Eggstravaganza” over the weekend. There was a train ride, a bounce house, food and other activities for the whole family besides the egg hunt.

Although it’s easy to get caught up with all the fun activities we also take the time to teach our daughters the meaning of Easter.
In our home they know that Jesus gave us Easter. One of the easiest ways we do that is by reading books to them. One of my favorite books I came across is My First Bible Stories the aim is to teach about redemption starting with the very first story of Adam and Eve.
This year I found Resurrection Story Eggs and used the eggs to teach about Christ’s death on the cross and resurrection. The scriptures and pictures were helpful. We especially liked opening the empty egg because Jesus is not there, He is risen!

I made copies of the labels and symbols to have extras so we could do the activity again next year. This could also be a DIY project. There are many great ideas on Pinterest for resurrection eggs. It’s tough to DIY anything when you have two toddlers running around. Perhaps I’ll take that approach next year!
In addition, we attend midweek class at church and teachers at our church have done an excellent job at teaching children about the events that led up to the resurrection.
As my daughters get older each holiday gets sweeter. Hopefully, this sparks some ideas that you can do with your little ones. Keep up with our IG stories for more Easter fun!
